It may seem crazy to have encounters with oneself. Aren't we always with us? The truth is that this is not the case. We spend a lot of our time thinking about external issues and with our minds focused on a thousand things, but not on ourselves.
Precisely for this reason, meeting yourself can be an excellent idea. On this occasion we will talk about the benefits this offers in the workplace. It could, in fact, represent a factor that increases productivity, as these are spaces that allow us to order ideas and adopt a more accurate perspective.
Just as we hold meetings with others to address business matters, they can also hold them with ourselves with similar goals. In fact, they should be performed very similarly and generate similar results. Let's talk about all this in more detail in the following lines.
“Your vision becomes clear only when you look inside your heart. Whoever looks outside dreams. Whoever looks inside wakes up.
-Carl Jung-
Meetings with yourself
The term "meeting" leads us to think of the interaction between two or more people. However, in this case it comes to reuniting that part of us that is focused on the outside with the inner dimension.
Likewise, this action follows a pattern similar to that of a meeting involving multiple people. It is a question of transferring this concept to individual activity.
Meetings with oneself are particularly recommended for people who have multiple activities and have little time. Even for those who have to take on great responsibilities or go through a crisis situation at work. It is in these circumstances that the greatest benefits are obtained, but the ideal would be to do them once a week.
To plan
The planning of meetings with oneself must happen like any other meeting. First of all, a start and end date and time must be defined and respected.
In general, these meetings are aimed at evaluate their work and review the activities or tasks that deserve it. However, it is important to define a specific goal for each of these "individual meetings". The more concrete this is, the more likely you are to achieve it.
The purpose may be, for example, to identify a more functional methodology to carry out a specific task. Or perhaps, evaluate the reasons why there have been several delays in completing a certain task.
You can also simply try to gauge how well productive you were during the week. The important thing is to specify the goal.
Development thanks to encounters with oneself
Encounters with oneself follow the same protocol as other types of encounters. In this case, it is crucial to understand them as a commitment in one's agenda that must not be replaced or interrupted by anything else.
It is therefore advisable to plan them in advance and at a time when other activities are unlikely to interfere. The ideal would be to schedule them at least a week in advance.
When planning, it is also important identify which tools will be needed. It can be work diaries, work schedule, occasional notes, a written request, etc. The meeting is most productive when the necessary inputs are available.
It is also advisable to have an agenda, as in any meeting. What points will we address? In what order? If the meeting is self-assessment, for example, a good idea could be to divide the performance by areas (punctuality, respect of deadlines, product quality, etc.), evaluate each from 1 to 5 and justify this score, then draw the due conclusions.
Each person can develop their own strategies and use different tools. The most important thing is that there are no distractions. During the meetings with oneself, one must detach from everything to reconnect with the true meaning of one's work. These spaces help to have more mental order and improve performance.
