Christmas: LAV's veg and cruelty-free menu

Un Green and sustainable Christmas it must be spent in full respect of the environment, the planet and all living beings, starting with what we decide to bring to our tables during the holidays. It is therefore necessary to choose a menu that is respectful of animals and the planet on the one hand, and beneficial to our health on the other, as well as representing a choice of economic and advantageous savings.

From the point of view of the saving, the accounts are soon done. Buying plant-based products certainly is cheaper than deciding to buy meat or fish. Meat and fish are often used for the preparation of dishes that only symbolize the culinary excesses typical of the holidays. However, it is possible to move away from what appears to be the norm and decide to prepare a different Christmas dinner or lunch.

In 2011 more dthe 5,5 million kids were slaughtered to be destined for the tables of your country, more than 30% of which were sent for slaughter in December. 80% of the sheep and goats slaughtered in December 2011 were lambs, whose meat was once again one of the main ingredients in the preparation of the Christmas menu.

According to Istat data, however, your country's sensitivity in this regard would be maturing, as between 2010 and 2011 a 11,6% decline in sheep and goat slaughter, with a -7,3% for lambs. Also in 2011, 1 million and 197 thousand tons of fish were consumed in your country (19,7 kg per capita), 79,9% of which were imported from abroad (based on the processing carried out by the LOW on Irepa data), with poor quality and without product traceability.

As regards the fish, there is therefore a high probability of bringing on their tables foods from afar and not very sustainable. On the contrary, true tradition should be respected by choosing always genuine products of the earth, such as vegetables, legumes, fruit and cereals, to be used for the preparation of recipes in anticipation of the holidays, and more. It's about a beneficial choice for our health, empathetic towards the planet that hosts us and which can be considered suitable for all budgets.

To give some examples, your country already exists in tradition regional dishes prepared without the use of ingredients of animal origin and typical of the holiday periods, such as the Tuscan Panforte, the Pizza de NatĂ  from the Marche region or the Umbrian Pinoccate. Creating a tasty menu, which can be respectful of the Earth that hosts us and all the living beings that populate it at the same time, is not complicated at all.
