Having a positive attitude means being able to enjoy your daily life to the fullest. With very positive effects at all levels, from better rest to the ability to establish higher quality social relationships. On the contrary, however, if you let yourself be guided by anxiety and stress, the consequences of impatience will worsen one's psycho-physical well-being. Accentuating, for example, the feeling of tiredness, nervousness and immersing in an atmosphere of constant dissatisfaction.

Do not let yourself be dominated by this negative feeling, even if the business document you have been waiting for does not arrive on time or if you have to wait for an hour for a friend who will arrive late due to traffic. As you will see in this article, anxiety is not worth it and to better understand this concept, we will explain what are the worst consequences of impatience.

The consequences of impatience on the mind

There are at least eight consequences of impatience that will affect our mental stability. We will describe them in detail, so that you can recognize them and, therefore, find the right psychological tools to avoid them or, at least, try to limit them. And remember, everything that is reflected on a mental level inevitably affects the health of the body in the long run.

1. Any goal will get more complicated

Being impatient will not bring anything positive. There will only be a sense of frustration and helplessness, as it is not possible to intervene to improve the course of events. In addition, these sensations worsen the mood.

The first of the consequences of impatience, unfortunately, is as simple as it is inevitable: impatience feeds on itself. It works like a real vicious circle.

2. We don't enjoy the present moment

It is important to learn to enjoy all the single moments of your life, as it will be impossible to relive them. They pass and get lost in memories. Impatience does not allow you to live in the present, as you focus your attention on what should come, but which never comes.

3. The vision will be clouded

In almost all situations it is possible to find (and exploit) a positive side, do not forget it. Therefore, if you find yourself stuck in a traffic jam and cannot move forward, you could pass the time by listening to some music, calling a friend on the speakerphone, reviewing the speech you need to give or simply observing others outside. This will keep you distracted and drive away that impatient feeling: the fear of wasting time.

4. Increase of negative emotions

Living with impatience makes us anxious, stressed and short-tempered people who tend to always see the negative side of every situation. We must keep in mind that our way of being depends on our emotions, and being impatient will, in all likelihood, make us people with a negative attitude and who always complain.

5. The emotional state will be deeply affected

If you want to be a balanced person and feel good about yourself, the best you can do is make yourself sensitive and receptive to emotions. Since sometimes avoiding the consequences of impatience is not possible, you can strive so that it does not end up clouding your ability to think and make judgments.

Consequences of impatience on the body

In addition to the consequences that impatience can have on emotional well-being, there may also be some factors that can even affect physical health. Let's see what they are and discover their characteristics:

6. Obesity, one of the consequences of impatience

Impatient people may be more prone to obesity. This is because they are used to spending less time preparing food and eat more compulsively and less orderly, consuming large quantities of food in less time.

7. Risk of hypertension

A large number of impatient people run an increased risk of hypertension. This may be due to the stress they experience during their typical day, accentuated by feelings of overwhelm and helplessness, but also to their predisposition to face any problem or unexpected with anxiety.

8. Premature aging

Impatience can also increase the rate at which we age. As with the consequences of hypertension, the stress resulting from impatience can promote the appearance of signs of aging at an early age.

This behavior affects telomeres, which are structures that protect DNA from degradation. When telomeres decrease, DNA degrades faster and signs of aging emerge. In impatient people, telomere structures are less developed and weaker.

In short, if you can keep calm and be patient in the face of life's problems, it will allow you to enjoy what you have to the fullest, no matter how little or normal it may be. You will discover new ways to know the nuances of your personality, enjoying those moments when you can't help but wait. Not being impatient will also help you appear to others as more confident people, with a more positive and optimistic attitude in any situation that arises.
