Il world barbecue championship presented in the first stage by the former Minister of Agriculture and current governor of Veneto Luca Zaia, naturally involves cooking tons of steaks and therefore thekilling of many animals destined to animate (when dead) a goliardic, gastronomic and folkloristic event.
This, of course, aroused the reaction of vegetarians, vegans and ordinary citizens, who finding an event of this type ridiculous and meaningless, protested en masse against the demonstration with letters addressed to the Veneto region and Municipalities of Asiago, Belluno and Caorle.
But it is precisely in the Giornale di Vicenza that he is acting as a theater for dissent. Some readers - for example - declare themselves disgusted and suggest promoting local tourism in another way, while others point the finger at waste and excessive consumption of meat, which is instead mythologized with “Griglie Roventi”. Still other readers express all their contempt for an activity that destroys all good environmental, ethical and social good intentions and practices.
In short, to enhance local tourism and local food and wine, there are many ways, compatible with environmental ethics and with the life of animals. The Asiago Festival could be one of them, right?
