Purchase trend of organic products

In the country, the trend of purchasing products with organic certification is constantly growing (in 2014 it is estimated a + 17% in the country with products from the country or abroad).

While some people try to buy all of the products with organic certification, much of the common consumption of organic products is done by occasional buyers who choose organic only for certain products instead of relying on a more integral and extended purchasing philosophy to each kind of product.

In fact, buyers of organic products can be distinguished on the basis of purchase motivation.

Ethical motivation - animal rights in organic spending

It is often associated with the vegan philosophy or at least one Vegetarian diet but not only that: many consumers who eat meat and derivatives also want them raised animals lead a healthy and dignified life, as much as possible in conformity with the free and natural one; therefore that the feeds are organic and of quality, that the animals have free spaces to graze and carry out their biological activities, that their nature is not violated with forced growth thanks to hormones or drugs, that they are not snatched from parental care prematurely, that they are transported and treated with dignity.

Nowadays it is proven how much nutrition affects the onset of various diseases and the free access to a lot of information on this topic plus the recommendations of many eminent exponents of the world of medicine have led many people to turn to organic producers and retailers for shopping for yourself and your children.

Recognize an organic product

For food products certified from organic farming we can verify this requirement if the logo Europeo composed of a leaf formed by white stars on a green field and on the label it is present near the name of the producer which control body has carried out the control with its own reference code for organic certification.

In non-food products such as organic cosmetics, clothing and fabrics, food supplements and "herbal" products or hygiene products, there is not yet an identical recognition logo in all European countries. Each control body issues its own certification logo as a product with materials from "organic farming" which is included in the labeling of the product subject to the regulation of organic farming.

Where to go to buy

As for packaged products, nowadays we can find lines of so-called conventional “big brands” that have developed production sectors specifically for organic products, relying on the sale of products to large-scale distribution. In addition to these, purely organic "big brands" have sprung up and have managed to compete in the large-scale distribution market by finding space both in supermarkets and specialized shops.

As regards the fresh products instead, it developed a more territorial market, with local networks and agreements through which producers are able to sell directly to large distributors.

On the one hand, this guarantees a shorter supply chain and a fresher product; on the other hand, according to the law, even the fresh bulk must be packaged to avoid contamination with the conventional fresh product. Fresh organic products can also be purchased directly from producers in organic markets and weekly markets.

They exist nowadays shops specializing in the sale of organic products, food and non-food products, such as cosmetics, kitchen tools, books, hygiene and cleaning products, products for children and babies, clothes, etc.

Another way to buy and sell organic products is the use of online stores. There are portals expressly dedicated to the organic world in which various companies come together to sell online; or we can find sales sites where you can find both organic and conventional; or the sites of the companies themselves, therefore also of the individual farmer or producer, who put their goods online.

Finally, another possibility to find organic products are i Solidarity Purchase Groups, or GAS.
