bepanthenol®, a Bayer brand that has been dealing with skin health for over 60 years, presented on Thursday 26 November, with a digital press event, Bepanthenol Tattoo, produced entirely dedicated to protection and care of tattoos. The occasion allowed a real journey into the world of tattooing, both from a scientific and artistic point of view.
Tattoo: art and tradition
The tattoo (or tattoo) is one of the oldest permanent body decoration techniques, which involves the inoculation of colored pigments through the skin, in order to define designs, letters and symbols.
"Today, tattooing is no longer seen as a form of rebellion as it was in the past", said Samuele Briganti, a nationally and internationally recognized Tuscan tattoo artist, adding "there are real" collectors "who are willing to travel for miles in order to reach a tattoo artist and have a drawing on your skin that identifies his style ».
What happens to the skin when it is tattooed?
When we observe a tattoo, we see its design through the most superficial layer of the skin, the epidermis, as well as the thinnest (1 mm) and made up of cells destined to renew themselves continuously. For this reason, the tattoo artist's needle must pass it and reach the second layer of the skin, the dermis, to inject the colored pigment.
The cells of the dermis are more stable than those of the epidermis, so the pigments of the tattoo inks remain fixed to them, like "small colored pebbles, which naturally cannot be" eaten "by macrophages, the so-called" scavenger "cells" , explained Professor Antonino Di Pietro, Dermatologist and Founding Director of the Vita Curtis Dermoclinic Institute.
Why is it important to take care of the tattoo?
Tattoos are not free from more or less important side effects, such as intolerance reactions, especially when poor quality or even toxic inks are used (not allowed by the Ministry of Health). For this reason, it is important to rely exclusively on professional tattoo artists.
In addition, there is the possibility of local infections: to all intents and purposes, a tattoo is a skin lesion, so it is important to take care of it in the days immediately following the execution, to speed up the healing process and prevent unpleasant inconveniences.
Professor Di Pietro went on to highlight how important it is to "then take care of the skin using products that are absolutely safe and tested, capable of promoting skin regeneration".
What to do after a tattoo
The skin takes about a week to fix the pigments: when the skin is repairing itself, it needs to be treated from the point of view of regeneration and hydration. During healing, therefore, it is necessary to prefer creams formulated with active ingredients useful for this purpose and capable of maintaining the tattoo over time as if it had just been done.
How to take care of the skin with Bepanthenol Tattoo
Bepanthenol Tattoo is a product dermatologically tested on the tattooed skin and dedicated specifically to all fans of this artistic form.
Its formula with panthenol (or pro-vitamin B5), an ingredient of particular importance for the epidermis since, in addition to providing it with the hydration necessary, thehelps to regenerate acting from within. At the same time, Bepanthenol Tattoo creates one natural and breathable protective layer which gives relief and preserves the beauty of the tattoo.
Once penetrated into the skin, Panthenol is transformed into pantothenic acid, essential in the process (Krebs cycle) which supplies energy to the skin cells in the form of ATP, promoting their regeneration. In addition to Panthenol, they are also contained in the formula high concentration lipid substances, main constituents of the "hydrolipidic film". These are additional factors to protect, hydrate and keep the skin supple.
Cristina Nicastro, Scientific Director of the Dermatological Area of Bayer, explained the results of the clinical study conducted to investigate the effects of the product on tattooed skin when applied 4 to 8 times a day for 14 days: "The main results were a reduction of transepidermal water loss which results in a regeneration of the tattooed skin. Furthermore, the consumers involved in the study highlighted theirs satisfaction after use by Bepanthenol Tattoo: in 93% of cases they declared that it gives relief to the tattooed skin, in 97% of cases they protects tattoos and for 97% of the cases that the product is easy to apply on the tattooed skin ».
Finally, the new pack design of Bepanthenol Tattoo sees the collaboration of Samuele Briganti who explained «La swallow is one of my historical subjects, it has an ancient history that comes from the American nautical world, in the early 900s. It was an honor to have a swallow or two tattooed on your chest, both of which proved that you had traveled the world at least once. A great symbol of respect! ».
