"Love art itself, and all the things you need will be granted to you." (Oscar Wilde)
Art gives us and teaches us a lot. In the company of him we can live unique experiences. Through art, we connect with the world, with artists, with humanity; it is as if an invisible thread unites us, even if thousands of kilometers separate us from other people.
Through art, we understand that i feelings are universal and that we all experience love, sadness, joy, shame, etc., being where we are, being who we are. Except that each of us receives different stimuli. And all these feelings and emotions, we can perceive them through a work.
Art has always been the balm for the soul and the refuge of many people, in many moments when we think we are useless and full of imperfections and that nothing is worthwhile; in those moments we can enter a museum and contemplate works that make us feel better, that have a “Stendhal Syndrome” effect on us.
We would all like to have artistic skills, to be able to express ourselves with a painting, a sculpture or a poem, because it must be a wonderful and unique sensation. Even if we don't have these qualities, we are capable of loving and appreciating works of art.
We invite you to enjoy this video and listen to the music as you read the text.
Not long ago an interesting work was presented by a group of Norwegian researchers, led by Koenraad Cuypers. The study was done on 51.000 people and was published in the newspaper «Journal of Epidemiology and Community helt».
According to Cuypers and his team of researchers, painting, writing, going to an exhibition or playing a musical instrument makes us feel happier and healthier.
One of the most curious conclusions revealed by this study consisted in the fact that men are happier and enjoy better health when they can "witness" the culture, while the opposite happened to women: creativity, being themselves doing the activities made them. feel more satisfied than contemplating art.
Precisely for this reason, and especially taking into account the fact that depression and anxiety are the order of the day in our society, it would be better for doctors, in addition to conventional treatments and drugs, to recommend something like this:
“I will reduce your medication doses and, at the same time, I advise you to go and see some of the exhibitions in the city; I have seen this and it is really beautiful "or" I recommend this book of poems .. "or" Try to go to some belly dance lessons "...
What do you think?
What is art for?
-Externalizing frustration and repressed emotions.
-La dance, for example, it is especially useful for people with eating problems, as it allows these people to constantly observe themselves in the mirror to check all the movements of their body and, therefore, helps them to accept themselves.
-La music it is able to calm some pains, because it has relaxing and soothing properties.
-La painting and sculpture help to calm anxiety, stress and fear.
-The theater is particularly suitable for those people with self-esteem problems, because it boosts self-confidence.
-La photography it is suitable for those people with problems just mentioned, because they are usually passive.
The important thing is that people feel good when they do these activities and not too much or forced. Art also helps us to know and explore our creative side, developing our potential and our self-knowledge, facilitating expression and communication.
