Being happy with your life is possible

Last update: April 30, 2020

Full happiness is not a state, but rather a path; and it is precisely this path that we want to analyze in this article. Being happy with your life involves moments of joy, of course, but it's more about the dynamic than the static, since it is in the movement that we realize ourselves.

It's about waking up every morning with plans and improvisations and going to sleep with the satisfaction of having made good use of the day, rather than with the more common one of ending another day. It's that kind of happiness where there is a calm euphoria and the conviction of knowing that things go on inside, more or less, but they work.

We are not always aware of our inner state. You can know if you are happy with the life you are leading by asking yourself a few questions and answering yourself sincerely. It's like overhauling the car. Sometimes it is useful testing our emotional moment to strengthen ourselves through it and to adjust the sails of our boat of life, if in some respect we are a little adrift.

Questions to understand if you are happy with your life (or not)

How often do I complain about my life?

This is one of the most important questions we can ask ourselves on a frequent basis. It's not just about avoiding complaining, it is about understanding the cause of an often-repeating complaint. If this situation recurs, it is likely that we have fallen into a vicious circle.

Complaints arise from frustration, discomfort, or damage suffered. We use grievance as a means of venting, but we must know that, instead of easing the tension, grieving forces us to focus on the negative aspect of the fact in question.

The vicious circle of complaining has two solutions: either I accept the situation or I do something to get out of it. Sometimes even the second solution is not available. If the only option is to accept the situation, analyze the problem, learn from it and focus on something else as soon as possible.

Do I have the right people by my side?

It is a difficult question, since not all the people around us have been chosen by us. Obviously, in work or family environments we will not always find or exist people who can enrich us and whom we can enrich.

Learning to create emotional filters with toxic people is an important step. Learning to see others based on the emotional impact they have on us is a very healthy exercise that helps us relate to them without negatively affecting us. We just have to accept that they are not the right people for us.

Attracting the right people into your life or holding onto the ones who are already there is just as important. The people who make us feel good are those with whom we can be ourselves without needing any mask. They are the people who support us in what we do or decide and with whom we love to spend time.

What are the pleasures of life that I really enjoy?

Sometimes we let ourselves go to the memory of the happy moments of the past. Or we auto-transport ourselves to the imaginary world of the future. Instead, there are many things that our present offers us to fully enjoy the little pleasures, which are what create memories for the future.

Immerse yourself in reading a good book, spend an entire afternoon cooking, go out for a long walk assimilating all the details or sit back and see that movie we had in mind. For each of us moments of pleasure are different and for this reason it is important to recognize your own in order to be happy with your life.

Practice some of the activities that make us feel good, avoiding getting stuck in the problems or obstacles we have in other aspects of life it is a good cardinal point on which to orient ourselves.

The inner smile has little to do with optimism. People who smile for no reason do so because they have happiness inside. It is a joy that comes from inner peace. They know that they are not perfect, that they give their best, they are not afraid of loneliness, they do not compare with others and, above all, they know how to be themselves.
