Thanks to the emotional balance we feel good and we are able to take risks and make others grow together with us. But how to achieve it?
Last update: February 09, 2021
Emotional balance is synonymous with stability, but it does not mean that it must necessarily be equidistant from the extremes. It is a state of calm, although it is subject to fluctuations; it is not synonymous with quiet, but with harmony.
As for the emotional part, it refers to the moment when we are at peace with ourselves, a state of mind in which personal knowledge, the correct management and expression of emotions and feelings prevail. How can we improve our emotional balance?
To achieve inner harmony, we need a connection between our inner and our outer, our outer world. Achieving this balance will require self-knowledge, or self-knowledge. Knowing oneself implies self-awareness. Knowing how to define oneself, knowing how to question oneself, not being afraid to expose oneself, tolerating uncertainty.
While it may seem like a simple task, it takes time and, of course, its main requirement is daily practice. Self-knowledge is a journey deep within us, but it will be one of the best experiences and relationships we can have.
Allow yourself to be and to find yourself, allow yourself to feel emotions and fears. Know who we are and how we are. Knowing why we are and how we can become who we want and can be.
Emotional balance as a starting point and final goal
After starting the journey towards self-knowledge and the discovery of the emotions that we host and feel in every moment, control and regulation arrive.
Emotions are a treasure that we all possess: they inform us that there is a connection between what happens outside of us and what we feel. They educate and protect us, welcome us and give us strength.
Emotions depend and function, they require action and change. Control and regulation come after preliminary knowledge; when we are able to identify and recognize ourselves and know when we can decide what to do and how to do it.
If you believe you are able to respect this type of emotional management and control, we propose an exercise: read each of these emotions and answer the following questions: love, anger, nostalgia, fear, disappointment, admiration, satisfaction.
- How can we know if we feel any of these emotions?
- What physical symptoms and thoughts do we feel when we experience them?
- How do we show them to others?
- How are our interpersonal relationships?
- Do you know what situations / people / thoughts can cause them?
The engine that drives us
What is the next step in working on our emotional balance? Self-motivation. When we achieve self-knowledge and properly regulate our emotions, we are able to focus our efforts on getting what we want every day and this makes us happy.
Building your ego takes time and care. The control and regulation of emotions often requires personal and interpersonal will and work. To improve self-motivation, we need several ingredients such as optimism, initiative and decision-making, the desire for success and, of course, commitment.
Directing our efforts is sometimes not an easy task, but if we can be persistent, to rely on our emotions and self-confidence, if we acquire the capacity for firmness, we will be closer to achieving our inner balance. Why nNo one walks aimlessly, because no one takes an easy path, but what you imagine.
Empathy and social skills to achieve emotional balance
What is the use of growing if we cannot share our path? After having realized the individual part, which requires continuous renewal, the social part arrives. Empathy and contact with others help us to continue with our development, to try new emotions and to feed ourselves with everything that others offer us.
Interpersonal relationships, and making them work, are part of a personal journey, so social skills allow us to grow and strengthen emotional balance. We are social beings and it is useless to have all the success in the world or to be happy if we cannot share these moods.
Personal growth comes with work, but the reward for achieving emotional stability and balance is the greatest gift.
