Last update: 24 March, 2022
More and more people realize that personal care is not a matter of selfishness at all. On the contrary, taking care of yourself is the first step in taking care of others. If you are a parent, this statement makes even more sense. This article focuses on personal care practices for moms, especially busy ones. Those who when they wear the "supermother" costume forget about themselves.
It is time to dismiss the popular belief, common to many women, that the family is above everything, and devoting time and resources to oneself becomes a selfish act. As a mother, you must be clear that in order to take care of your children you must first take care of yourself, and that to love your children you must first love yourself. What teaching would you give him otherwise?
Personal care is a key part of any wellness treatment. But it's more than just taking care of yourself externally. It is above all a question of health. Personal care encompasses different aspects of our life. From the practical to the physical and mental and, of course, the spiritual one. Therefore, everyone will choose which area to apply it to, or which aspects of life he will want to protect.

Create moments of personal care for busy moms
We will not try to convince you how important it is to pamper your skin or your hair, to pay attention to what you eat or to exercise. You already know this. Our aim is to offer you strategies and tools to reconnect with yourself, in order to recharge your batteries and move on.
We all agree that spending time on personal care can be especially difficult for moms. Because finding the time is almost impossible. That's why the challenge is to create it, invent it. Yes, it is a question of creativity.
It is transform moments when you are not full of things to do into moments of personal care. Learn to differentiate what is important from what is not. Invest these minutes and do something for your well-being. You can also take time away from other activities and invest it in yourself. Be creative and listen to your body. Learn to relax and rest.
Below we will look at a series of personal care practices for busy moms, which you can include in your daily life without excuses. You just have to find a few minutes to put them into practice and regain your center.
"When I began to truly love and love myself, I stopped wanting a different life and I realized that the challenges I was facing were an invitation to improve myself."
-Charlie Chaplin-
Keep your legs up
Lifting your legs will help you feel less heavy and to fight inflammation caused by some health problem. In the second case, this position will give you some relief, albeit momentary. If you prefer, close your eyes and empty your mind as much as possible.
We recommend that you lie down on the bed or on a carpet (even on the floor). Then, rest your feet with your legs bent or extended, on the wall or on a chair, on the headboard, etc. You can also lift your legs without a support. The more you lift and stretch them, the better. But if you can't, it doesn't do anything. Listen to your body and push yourself as far as you can and as far as you feel comfortable.
Practice diaphragmatic breathing
Practicing diaphragmatic breathing is the first step in learning to relax. In addition, it is one of the most recommended techniques for mothers' personal care. Concentrate on the movement of the abdomen, lowering the diaphragm, this will make the breathing deeper. This type of breathing decreases stress and promotes oxygenation of the organism.
To start, sit in a comfortable position or lie flat on your back. Close your eyes and place your hands on your stomach. Breathe in through your nose and feel your belly expand like a balloon. Exhale and notice how the belly presses against the spine. Repeat several times, making each cycle of breath longer and deeper.
If you feel particularly stressed or agitated, hold the air for a few seconds after inhaling and exhaling. If you don't succeed the first time, don't worry. Try again. If you do it with the right intention and correctly, it will take 3 or 4 breaths to calm you down. You can perform 3 cycles of 5 diaphragmatic breaths each. Between each cycle, allow one minute to rest.
Enjoy hot tea
Sipping hot tea in solitude and silence is one of the great gifts you can give yourself during the day. Make it a ritual (mid-morning or mid-afternoon) and this habit will become your great ally throughout the day.
Depending on the time of day and your tolerance to caffeine (theine), in addition to your needs at the moment, you can choose between different teas, perhaps organically grown. Choose one with beneficial properties that you think might be right for you.
If silence causes you distress or you feel thoughts saturating your mind, accompany your ritual with a guided video or audio of a meditation or visualization. Feel every sip, focus on the sensations and breathe.
Additional personal care practices
There are other simple practices that you can use as personal care. The ideal would be include a yoga session in the morning to start the day (at least 15-20 minutes). If you can dedicate a few minutes to meditation or mindfulness, even better. You may have to get up early to do this, but it's worth it. If you can't do it in the morning, you can do it at the end of the day to go to bed more relaxed.
As we mentioned at the beginning, in your daily habits you should never miss personal and physical care. What you do will depend on what you value most. What's important is that do not stop taking care of yourself to devote all your time to others.
Don't forget to include exercise in your personal care ritual. Organize your day to devote a few minutes to sport, inside and outside the home, in the gym or outdoors.
