Thomas Harris, the creator of the dreaded Hannibal Lecter, states that "blaming your mistakes on your nature doesn't change the nature of your mistakes." He phrase that he invites us to reflect on the usefulness of guilt and that makes us aware of the importance of stopping blaming ourselves for everything.
Being a perfectionist is good, but you need to know how to find a medium term. Otherwise, perfection can become a real punishment through the sense of guilt. We will hardly be satisfied with what we do, as most of the time we will find a reason or a reason to improve it.
So, we can try to improve our weaknesses, but not to the point of obsessing over them. If we get to this dangerous limit, we may find ourselves consumed with guilt and frustration.
Stopping blaming ourselves for everything is a practice that we must take into consideration. Everything that happens to us and that we consider negative does not always see ourselves as its origin. It is necessary to know how to study the situation in detail, in order to improve our personal well-being. However, it is of little use to waste our time reminding ourselves that we are the culprits of what happened.
