The Alchemist di Paulo Coelho It is one of the best-selling books in history. The story is about Santiago, the young shepherd who on his way to the realization of his "Personal legend”Inspired people from all over the world to live their dreams.
During his adventures, young Santiago learns of important life lessons (Concepts that we will see later). The apparent purpose of his journey is the pursuit of a recurring dream: in this dream, the shepherd boy is at the foot of the pyramids, where there is a very rich hidden treasure. In reality, the adventure, which will take him from Andalusia -his homeland- to the Great Pyramids of Egypt, will end up representing a set of extremely harsh test benches, an allegorical representation of his crecimiento.
If you haven't done so yet, I invite you to read the book "The Alchemist" because it's really beautiful (I finished it in 3 days). You can pick it up at the library, ask a friend who already has it, or order it on Amazon/Ebay.
So let's see together 9 lessons of this wonderful book you can apply to your life.
1. Fear is a greater obstacle than the obstacle itself
"Only one thing makes a dream impossible: the fear of failure."
Paulo CoelhoA new adventure requires entering unknown territory. This is scary, but every big risk comes with a big reward. The experiences you will accumulate by chasing your dreams make it worthwhile in any case.
“Tell your heart that the fear of suffering is worse than suffering itself. And that no heart has ever suffered when it goes in search of its dreams, because every second of the search is a second encounter with God and with eternity”.
Paulo Coelho2. What is "true" will last forever.
“If what you find is made of pure matter, it will never go bad. And you can always go back. If what you found was just a momentary flash of light, like a starburst, you won't find anything when you return. "
Paulo CoelhoThe truth cannot be veiled in any way, it will always be there, upright. When you make the right decision, it will be the one that will stand the test of time and the weight of judgment.
3. Embrace the present
“Because I live neither in my past nor in my future. I am only interested in the present. If you can always focus on the present, you will be a happy man. "
Paulo CoelhoThere is no point dwelling on the past and letting it define us, or feeling lost and anxious about the future. But in the present moment we are in the realm of possibility: how we engage and relate to the present moment will direct our lives.
4. Your success has a domino effect
“This is what alchemists do. They show that when we strive to be better, everything around us becomes better too.”
Paulo Coelho
Growth, change and evolution spread like waves in the fabric of reality. Becoming a better version of yourself creates a ripple effect that everyone around you benefits from: your lifestyle, your family, your friends, your community.

5. Make that decision
"When someone makes a decision, they dive into a strong current that will take them to places they didn't even dream of before making that decision."
Paulo CoelhoIt's easy to become overwhelmed by the unknowns and details of your dreams. The actions will come out by themselves, when you have confidence in the decision you have made. Sitting on the fence will get you nowhere.
6. Be unrealistic
"I see the world in terms of what I would like to see happen, not what it really is."
Paulo CoelhoSome of the greatest inventions would not have happened if certain people had accepted the world as it is. Great achievements and innovations begin with a mind that ignores the impossible.
7. Keep getting up
"The secret of life, he thinks, is to fall down seven times and get up eight."
Paulo Coelho
Because the eighth time could be the good one. Some of the best novels in history were published after receiving hundreds of rejections. Thank goodness these authors never gave up.
8. Focus on your path
“If someone is not like the others want them to be, the others get angry. Everyone seems to have a clear idea of how others should lead their lives, but no one knows exactly how to lead their own."
Paulo Coelho
It's simple to be influenced by others, but you'd be miserable if you ended up living someone else's life. There is nothing wrong with taking advice and learning from others, but make sure it aligns with your desires and passions.
9. Always act
“There is only one way to learn. And it's through action."
Paulo CoelhoYou can study, you can read and listen until you drop, but the full experience is when you perform and make rubber meet tarmac.
