"Don't give me anxiety or insomnia pills. Don't prescribe me the latest antidepressant on the market. Treat me with love, you will be my doctor, the doctor of my soul. Give me a hug, a kiss or a word, but that comes from the bottom of your heart ... I'm not interested in surrogates.
You say you are my friend, but I never find you in your words or even in your absent gaze. Instead he, who never boasted of being one, I met him in his sweet words and in his sweet look ".
Affection is one of the best medicines
Has it ever happened to you to go to see the doctor and go out in worse states than those in which you entered or to leave the visit feeling almost completely healed, without having taken the medicines yet? The greatest weight has the attitude of the doctor who welcomed you.
The responsibility lay with the tact, humanity and affection that this doctor showed you in one of the situations in life where one feels most vulnerable: illness. Certainly, the cure of the disease is not obtained only with therapies and pills: affection is an excellent companion.
This role is not exclusive to this profession: we can all become doctors of the soul and body with others, thanks to our attitude. In fact, it is proved that positive emotions relax, produce well-being, slow down blood pressure, keep the stomach healthy and the immune defenses active; all of this has an impact on our health.
Negative emotions, on the other hand, turn into intestinal pain, migraines, anxiety, insomnia and a generally weak immune system. It is for this reason that affection and positive emotions are among the best medicines in the world.
A strong hug, a nice compliment, a sincere "count on me" help body and soul. The Romans used to say "mens sana in corpore sano"; if we are helped and we also help ourselves a little, we can make this phrase a reality when we need it most.
Where to find affection?
Affection cannot be bought or sold. Others cannot be expected to give us doses of affection that they do not feel, and neither can we give it, if it does not come from the depths of our hearts. However, we all have the ability to give affection by cultivating empathy and altruism.
Furthermore, we can all receive affection, often in a completely unexpected way and from unsuspected people until that moment; have faith.
Your intuition, or that powerful weapon that helps you find a thousand and one solutions, will also guide you in the search for affection.
Today, we offer you small tips to find affection along your path:
- Surround yourself with people who truly appreciate you, who know how to listen to you and understand you. Laugh together, laughter is a very powerful medicine, which unites in dark times.
- Be friends with the children. By sympathizing with them, children offer you extremely pure, sincere, and unselfish affection and love. Often, with children loaded with large doses of love and empathy, invisible bonds are born.
- Get closer to the elderly, because they are wells of science. They speak to you with the voice of experience and; if you pay attention, you will see that inside them there is a grandfather hidden for each of us. If you talk to them, you will feel that they welcome you as if you were other grandchildren.
Talk to those special elders who walk close to you and who are willing to help you. By doing so, you will make them feel useful and help them in turn. You will let them know that you feel good in their company.
- Consider good neighbors and good friends. Talk to good people, bold polite words like "hello, how are you?"; in return, these people will help you. It is not good to be isolated for a long time.
And now, the most important thing: spread doses of affection every day, give love to others … Because, sometimes, many things can be solved simply by “giving”.
