The Argentine singer-songwriter Facundo Cabral distinguished himself because he managed to spread his ideas through profound reflections with which, thanks to satire, anarchism, social criticism and optimism, he communicated an important message. In his introductions, he often referred to Whitman, Borges, Atahualpa Yupanqui, Jesus, Maria Theresa of Calcutta and Krishnamurti. One of his most famous introductions is titled: "You are not depressed, you are distracted".
He was exiled from his country during the dictatorship and, at that time, he decided to settle in Mexico. He performed in more than 165 countries and among his most successful concerts are those in the company of Alberto Cortez, Argentine singer and poet who described Cabral as "a controversial character who invented himself".
"Seeking happiness is just another excuse to be even more unhappy."

In his monologue "You are not depressed, you are distracted," Cabral reflects on sadness, a typical evil of our time and which, at one time or another, affects us all. He describes this phenomenon as a blindness, distracting us from enjoying the richness and beauty of the world around us.
Distracted from life
In one section of this presentation, Cabral invites us to ask ourselves questions about it, saying: “Distracted from the life that populates you… You have heart, brain, soul and spirit… How can you say you are poor and unfortunate. Distracted from the life that surrounds you, dolphins, woods, seas, mountains, rivers ... "
To emphasize, he adds: “Don't fall into what your brother fell into, suffering from a human being when there are 5600 million others in the world, and living alone is not that bad; i live at the moment and loneliness allows me to know myself, which is essential for living".
He continues stating: “This is why you are convinced that you have lost something, but it is impossible: everything has been given to you. Everything you have is yours without you having lifted a finger, so you are not master of anything. Life does not take away, rather it frees you from things, it lightens you to allow you to fly higher and reach fullness ".
The generosity of Facundo Cabral
Facundo Cabral was a man who shared his life experiences with the masses. This communion with others was notable for his use of sarcasm and a clever and sharp sense of humor.. In this way, listeners could enjoy the show and recreate the meaning of life in a unique and original way.
It is evident in his presentations that life is above all learning: “Life is a school from the cradle to the grave, and what you call problems are actually lessons; life is dynamic and in constant motion, so you have to pay attention to the present. There are many things to enjoy, and our time on earth is too short to waste time".
He also spoke of death saying: “You have not lost anyone, the dead have reached the afterlife before you, but we will all go there; moreover, their best part, Love, still lives in your heart. There is no death: there is a move. And on the other side, wonderful people await you: Gandhi, Michelangelo, Whitman, Saint Augustine, Mother Teresa, your grandmother and my mother who believed that poverty is closer to love, because money distracts us with too many things ”.
How to find happiness
Cabral was a kind of apostle of love, who preached his unconventionality to the four winds. A pacifist convinced that, for no reason in the world, he considered violence an effective solution. A lonely and happy being who let himself be kept company by good literature and good music, to compose his own creations.
He insisted on the idea of being guided by his heart: "You do not find happiness even though it is easy to find, just listen to the heart instead of the head; the head, it is conditioned by memory, by complications and from the orders of the past, from the prejudices that make us sick, that bind. The head divides and impoverishes, the head is unable to accept that life is as it is, not as it should be. Follow only what you love and you will be happy ”.
Cabral explains that being happy is our duty: “Make peace with yourself, look in the mirror and know that the person reflected is the work of God; decide at this very moment to be happy: happiness is an acquisition, it will not come from outside. Furthermore, it is not a right, but a duty, since he who is unhappy also afflicts others ”.
Other teachings
Regarding certain diseases he explains: "And if you have cancer or AIDS, two things can happen to you and both are good; if you are defeated, you get rid of the body that is so annoying: I'm hungry, I'm cold, I'm sleepy, I want, I'm right, I have doubts ... And if you win, you will be humble, more grateful, easily happy for this. Free from the tremendous weight of guilt, responsibility, vanity, willing to live every moment deeply, as it should be ".
On our inner light, he adds: "Fears distract us from love, which is wise and courageous because it knows that there are no means and ends. He searches within you and the clouds of the periphery will disappear, he remains still and silent to listen to the wise man who lives within you.
Once the inner light is turned on, nothing can turn it off. It is perfect and incorruptible like gold which symbolizes the power of purity, of the essential, that is, of the spirit, which is an infinite and wonderful journey because it shines in every moment lived in depth ".
Regarding the ego and unconsciousness, Facundo Cabral says: "When you drop the ego, the miracles begin, and then, without a struggle, you will find your natural strength. For this reason, you will be able to give life thanks to love, you will even be able to walk on water and heal with words. The ego names things, but the innocent see them. The ego judges them, the innocent live them. The ego divides, innocence harmonizes differences. The ego depends on the mind, the innocent on the heart ”.
And you have everything you need, now you just need to accept the challenge: "Now that you are alone and at peace, forget who you are, because that is a creation of others, and listen to your heart: What do you want to be? What do you want to do now? Because life is right now ”.
