Legend has it that scarecrows cannot have friends. The men gave the scarecrows a sinister and frightening air, and planted them in immense fields so that, with their appearance, their pumpkin head, their body and their wooden hands, they would frighten the birds.
The protagonist of this short film is a lonely scarecrow, which goes against its very nature. He wants to be a friend of the birds and, for this reason, he does not hesitate to perform acts of generosity towards them every day, waiting to attract their attention.
The power of generosity
This wonderful little short film cannot leave anyone indifferent. In a certain way, we need to reflect on ourselves and on the sense of loneliness, generosity and the truly incomprehensible essence, which sometimes characterizes humanity.
There are many times we have been trapped in our lonely cornfields, acting with nobility whenever possible, giving voice to our hearts, without our actions, our requests, being recognized.
Should we change our attitude to suffer less? Absolutely no. Whoever stops being generous closes the doors of his heart and stops being himself. Think about it.
The legend of the scarecrow
If the universe of Tim Burton appeals to you, you will find many similarities with the aesthetics of this short film. Trees with falling branches, colors with gray and dark shades that force us to reflect, to get in touch with our own fears ...
Our protagonist was created, just as the blind crow reveals, with the aim of driving away all animals, especially birds. He was therefore condemned to live in eternal solitude, governed by the cultivation cycles and the rules imposed by men.
He saw the wheat grow, the clouds roll over him, and the nights turn into days. However, it was of no use to our scarecrow to show himself generous to the crows every day, offering them grain, so that they would stop, to eat, to be friends with him.
The invisible generosity
There are many times when our actions and efforts are not recognized.
We strive every day to do things well, not just for others, not for appearance or for personal gain. Noble acts come from a sincere heart, which does not know how to beat in any other way, because this is its way of existing.
Our scarecrow doesn't even know what its function is at first. He is limited to being, waking up every morning in the cornfields, watching the wind blow, as if it were not part of that mechanism whose intent was to drive away the crows, to favor his loneliness.
Accept in order to change
This is how we feel at certain points in our life cycle. We think that our path is clear, that what surrounds us defines us and we also come to accept sadness, disillusionment.
- However, there always comes a time when we are forced to react. Our scarecrow comes out of his comfort zone when the crow explains to him what is the purpose for which he was created. And he reacts, he rebels: he escapes from the wheat field and asks his master to be able to do another job.
- We all see ourselves, at times, forced to go beyond the limits, and go beyond the roles that others, especially society, have imposed on us. Like the scarecrow, we choose to uproot our roots, but without losing our essence, our nobility and our generosity.
In this delicate and wonderful short film, made by Marco Besas and Olivier Nakache, and directed by Marco Besas in 2005, we will see what happens when our sweet and graceless character he decides to get rid of its essence, that is to say those words that at first defined what it was: “scares-sparrows”.
What happens is a starting point for reflection, which will make you move, cry and smile, with the final flight of the crows, which in the end, they will recognize the generosity of those who have always wanted to be their friend.
